Hello. My name is Juan Carlos Druetta.
I come from Argentina and I am a Deaf Interpreter.
Welcome to this website for WASLI.
WASLI is the World Association of Sign Language Interpreters.
The idea of a World Association is not new. It was first talked about (many years ago) - in 1975, and in 2003 at a meeting of interpreters at the WFD Congress in Montreal, it was agreed to form a World Association.
In 2005 the first conference of the World Association of Sign Language Interpreters took place in South Africa.
WASLI aims to :

advance the sign language interpreting profession worldwide

have national associations in all countries

support national associations
-
share information and become a reference
-
support interpreters working at international events like conferences, sporting events
-
work with Deaf and Deafblind Associations on sign language interpreting issues
-
liaise with spoken language interpreter organisations and other organisations who have similar interests
The next WASLI Conference will take place in Madrid, Spain in 2007.
This will be a very exciting event but you will have to come back and visit our site again to ensure you have up to date information.
